St. Johns River Cleanup and Celebration a Success

The 21st annual St. Johns River Cleanup & Celebration presented by the City of Jacksonville Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 as Jacksonville’s kick-off event for the Florida Great American Cleanup. In total, 839 volunteers spent almost 1,900 hours collecting 835 bags of trash from our neighborhoods and waterways at over 42 sites. This is estimated to be more than 16,661 lbs!

Partnerships with Riverside Avondale Preservation, San Marco Preservation Society, Murray Hill Preservation Association and Springfield Restoration and Preservation added dozens of sites, taking the cleanup from the shoreline to the streets to prevent trash from ever reaching the river.

Special thanks to:

  • City of Jacksonville for providing clean up supplies,
  • Johns Riverkeeper for organizing,
  • Vagabond Coffee for allowing MHPA to set up a sign-in table out front, and
  • our hard-working Murray Hill Volunteers!
